Reconnect and Rebuild Your Relationship

What is Imago Relationship Therapy & Coaching?

Imago Relationship Therapy is a powerful yet gentle approach to strengthening relationships and creating emotional safety. I use Imago to support not only couples but also individuals and those navigating relationships with family members, friends, and others who matter deeply in their lives. At its core, Imago helps slow down communication, soften reactivity, and create deeper understanding and connection.

Developed in the 1980s by Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt, coauthors of Getting the Love You Want, Imago recognizes that our closest relationships often mirror early experiences, including trauma. Rather than viewing these patterns as problems, Imago frames them as powerful openings for awareness, healing, and deeper connection.

What makes Imago so transformative is its focus on compassionate, intentional dialogue. Rather than escalating conflict or assigning blame, Imago creates space for people to feel genuinely heard, validated, and understood. Through guided dialogues and relational practices, you learn how to repair rupture, rebuild trust, and respond with greater presence and empathy.

Whether working individually or with others, Imago therapy and coaching support deeper self-awareness, healthier boundaries, and more meaningful, fulfilling relationships in all areas of life.

Culturally Sensitive Support

Reiki is a gentle, restorative energy practice that supports emotional balance, reduces stress, and promotes deep relaxation.  Reiki helps clients release tension held in the body, calm the nervous system, and restore a sense of inner peace. Reiki enhances healing by easing anxiety, improving sleep, and creating space for clarity and emotional release.  Many clients leave feeling grounded, lighter, and more connected to themselves.

Imago Parenting Program

Communologue Building Bridges in Groups

Communologue Building Bridges in Groups

Parenting isn’t about getting it right—it’s about staying connected. The Imago Parenting Group provides a supportive space for parents to slow down, reflect, and gain a deeper understanding of their own triggers, while learning practical tools for connection, repair, and emotional attunement with their children and themselves. Grounded in Imago-based principles, the group explores how our own experiences shape the way we parent and how increased awareness creates choice, compassion, and meaningful change. This group is designed for thoughtful parents who want to be more intentional, reflective, and confident in how they show up, especially during challenging moments. This virtual closed 8-week meets for 2 hours each week. The cost is $50 per week.

Parents will acquire tools that enhance patience, confidence, and cooperation at home, ultimately fostering secure, connected family relationships that endure. The next group begins on February 20, 2026, at either 10:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Space is limited to 10 participants!

Communologue Building Bridges in Groups

Communologue is a guided, structured dialogue process designed to create safety, openness, and inclusion. It supports deep communication and authentic connection within families, communities, and organizations.

Through intentional facilitation, Communologue establishes a respectful conversational space where diverse perspectives are welcomed and each person feels heard and valued. This process helps groups move beyond conflict, tension, and mistrust toward empathy, understanding, and meaningful exchange.

While Communologue is not a traditional conflict-resolution or problem-solving service, it naturally strengthens collaboration, mutual respect, and shared movement toward common goals.

Participants experience the Communologue method firsthand and gain practical tools they can apply in their relationships, workplaces, and communities. Ongoing practice opportunities are available for those who wish to deepen their engagement and continue cultivating dialogue, connection, and peacebuilding.

At its foundation, Communologue weaves together three essential elements:
Safety in communication, Honor for each individual and their experience, and Hope where new understanding can emerge.

The rate is $160 for 75 minutes, with a minimum of 2 hours.

About Thavone

I’m Thavone Huinil-Phommavongsa, a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist with over 23 years of clinical experience supporting individuals, couples, and families who are ready for genuine changes for strong, healthy relationships.

My work is well-suited for people who are motivated, self-aware, and tired of repeating the same patterns despite years of effort. Many of the clients I work with are committed and deeply invested in their relationships, yet they often feel disconnected, misunderstood, or unsure how to move forward without losing themselves or one another.

Having navigated relationship struggles myself, I understand how painful disconnection, rejection, and feeling unseen can be. That lived experience shapes my work and informs a therapeutic stance grounded in empathy, emotional safety, and presence. I believe healing happens not through quick fixes or surface-level strategies, but through slowing down, deepening awareness, and learning how to be in relationship differently.

As a Lao therapist, my work is informed by lived experience within a collectivist culture, intergenerational family systems, and the resilience shaped by migration and ancestry. This cultural lens supports nuanced, culturally responsive care that honors complexity and cross-cultural bonds.

Clients often describe sessions with me as grounding, steady, and emotionally safe. even when the work is challenging and stretching them. I bring a calm, attuned presence and a clear therapeutic structure that supports insight, safety, and sustainable change.

In addition to Imago Relationship Therapy, I integrate hypnosis, IFS (Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, Reiki, mindfulness-based practices, and somatic techniques to support embodied healing and deeper integration. Each client’s work is tailored, intentional, and respectful of pace, capacity, and readiness.

Outside of my clinical work, I’m a parent and partner of a blended family of five children, which continues to deepen my understanding of relational complexity and ongoing healing and growth.

I’m grounded by spiritual practice, meditation, reflective reading, and time in nature, and I’m equally nourished by community and connection. These lived experiences shape the steady, thoughtful presence I bring into the therapy space.

My work is not short-term or transactional. It is designed for those who value depth, discernment, and lasting change. At the heart of my practice is the belief that we heal best in relationships where we feel safe enough to be honest, reflective, and real.

If you’re ready to invest in your relationships and engage in meaningful, transformative work, I welcome the opportunity to walk alongside you.

My passion comes from my own story. My family came to the United States as refugees, and it was the support of community and strong relationships that helped us thrive. We did not succeed alone; we succeeded because people showed up for us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at intentionalives@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Your first session is a gentle beginning. We’ll take time to get to know each other, explore what brings you in, and identify your goals for therapy or coaching. You’ll have space to share at your own pace, and there is no pressure to have everything figured out. My role is to create a calm, supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and safe to open up.

We’ll discuss what’s working, what feels challenging, and what you hope changes moving forward. Together, we’ll outline a plan that fits your needs using approaches that may include Imago Relationship Therapy, mindfulness, hypnosis, somatic work, and IFS.  Most clients leave the first session feeling hopeful, relieved, and clearer about next steps.

I work with individuals, couples, and families seeking support for relationships, communication challenges, personal growth, and life transitions. Many clients come wanting to repair or strengthen their relationships, overcome patterns that hold them back, or reconnect with themselves. I also provide support for those navigating stress, trauma, co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, and for refugee and immigrant communities needing culturally sensitive support.

Every session is tailored to your unique needs, using tools like Imago Relationship Therapy, coaching, mindfulness, hypnosis, IFS, and somatic approaches. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful, lasting change.

I use a holistic and individualized approach, drawing from evidence-based therapeutic and coaching methods to meet your specific needs. This includes Imago Relationship Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, hypnosis, mindfulness, IFS, and somatic work, as well as modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Cross-Cultural Therapy.

Each session is tailored to you, whether that’s improving communication, healing past wounds, reducing stress, or creating meaningful change in your life. My approach is relational and client-centered, emphasizing safety, connection, and practical tools that you will use daily.

Individual sessions typically last 60 minutes at a rate of $135 and 75 minutes for $160.. Imago Relationship Therapy sessions are 75 minutes with a rate of $160 per session.

I accept HSA/FSA, check, and debit card payments, and all sessions are private pay; I do not accept insurance or provide superbills for reimbursement.

Choosing private pay offers several benefits: it allows us to focus fully on your needs without navigating insurance restrictions, ensures complete privacy, and provides flexibility in scheduling and session length. You also maintain full control over your care, creating a more personalized and consistent experience. Private pay supports a collaborative, client-centered approach, making it easier to create lasting change without interruptions or limits imposed by insurance coverage.

Scheduling a session is simple. You can reach out via the contact form on this website, email, or phone to request a time that works for you. Once we connect, I’ll provide information about session options, answer any questions, and confirm your appointment.

Your first session is an opportunity to explore your goals, discuss your needs, and get a sense of how we can work together. I strive to make the process smooth and welcoming, so you can focus on your growth and healing from the very beginning.

You can attend sessions on your own, even if your partner isn’t ready to participate. Individual sessions are often a helpful first step in gaining clarity, understanding your patterns, and learning skills that can positively impact your relationship.

Working individually can also help you feel more confident in communicating your needs, managing conflict, and exploring what you want from the relationship. If your partner becomes ready later, we can integrate couples sessions at a pace that feels comfortable for both of you.

Many couples face deep challenges, including infidelity, and still find a way to heal and rebuild trust. I have worked with many couples in this manner, guiding them through difficult conversations, repairing communication, and restoring connection.

Relationship therapy provides a structured, safe space to explore underlying issues, improve communication, and work through pain with guidance and support. While healing takes time, commitment, and effort from both partners, therapy can help you understand patterns, restore connection, and create a path forward, whether that’s rebuilding the relationship or gaining clarity about the next steps. Even in very difficult situations, therapy helps couples and individuals approach the future with greater awareness, understanding, and emotional resilience.

Many clients begin therapy or coaching without a clear idea of what they need or how to start. Your first sessions are an opportunity to explore your concerns, identify patterns, and clarify your goals in a safe, supportive environment.

Together, we’ll assess your needs and create a plan that fits your unique situation. Whether you’re seeking guidance for personal growth, relationship challenges, or managing life transitions, starting therapy is a proactive step toward understanding yourself better and creating meaningful change. Even if you’re uncertain, taking that first step often brings relief, clarity, and a sense of direction.

Yes. I support clients navigating a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and co-occurring substance use concerns. As a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), I’m trained to provide guidance, support, and evidence-based strategies for individuals managing both mental health and substance use issues.

My approach is holistic and client-centered, integrating therapies such as Imago Relationship Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, mindfulness, somatic work, and coaching techniques. Together, we create a safe and supportive space to address challenges, build resilience, and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

During a hypnosis session, you will remain in control while your mind enters a deeply relaxed, focused state. You may lie down or sit, whichever feels most comfortable, as you are guided through relaxation, imagery, and suggestions. Sessions usually begin with a brief conversation to clarify your goals and comfort level. Many clients share that they experience a sense of calm, increased clarity, and emotional release during or after the session, leaving them feeling lighter, more centered, and empowered to create positive change.
